Community Service Project:
UNION RESCUE MISSION
Union Rescue Mission (URM) is dedicated to serving the poor and homeless, by embracing them with the compassion of Christ. Established in 1891, URM is one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. They provide a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services to their guests, including: food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training to needy men, women, children, and families.
Calvary third and fourth graders are committed to supporting URM in the following ways:
- Provide support and aid to our Southern Californian local homeless.
- Weekly Group Prayer
- Monthly letters of support and encouragement (or banners or art projects, etc)
- Holiday and special occasion cards
- Involvement with Enchanted Children’s Store where children shop for gifts for their parents for Christmas
- Children’s Toy Day where parents shop for children’s Christmas gifts.
- On-going collection of toiletries.
- Sock drive, coat drive, etc.
- Four separate field trips to volunteer time in service
- Decorate URM for a holiday
