School-Wide Service Project: Soldiers' Angels

Soldiers’ Angels provides aide and comfort to our nation’s armed forces and their families. Volunteers of Soldiers' Angels send care to deployed soldiers and their loved ones at home. Calvary’s service goal is to build community with deployed soldiers, their children and their families and to help Iraqi children rebuild their lives through fellowship and action.

As our designated school-wide community service organization, the grade level teams listed below are committed to serving Soldiers' Angels in the following ways:

TK-K: Presidential Prayer Team Goal: To pray daily for our President, our Leaders, our Nation and our Armed forces.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Daily individual and weekly group prayer for soldiers and their families
  • Daily individual and weekly group prayer for Iraqi children and their families
  • Adopt a soldier or group for which to pray
  • Interactive website prayers, scriptures and current events

Grades 1-2: Iraqi School Supplies Team and Operation Iraqi Children Team Goal: To link CCS with schools in Iraq in an effort to bring supplies and equipment, and to bring an understanding of how the differences in our cultures should not prevent us from caring and helping one another.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Weekly group prayer for Iraqi children, school teachers and staff and their families
  • Monthly and on-going school supply gathering for Iraqi schools
  • On stand-by for requests via military for specific needs/supplies for Iraqi children

Grades 3-4: Adopt a Soldier TLC Team Goal: To embrace, acknowledge and support our armed forces.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Adopt a battalion of soldiers.
  • Daily individual prayer and weekly group prayer.
  • Write letters and/or e-mail weekly to their soldiers (confidential identities, no political conversations permitted)
  • Cards on birthdays, holidays and special occasions.
  • Regularly send care packages to soldiers, rotating student families. (Desired items outlined by organization).

Grades 5-6:  S.O.S. Kids’ Team & Operation Outreach Goal: To build community and support kids and families of the deployed military.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Adopt up to 20 families (up to 5 per class). Create student teams of 3+, each team responsible for one family for the duration of school year and beyond. Will try to adopt families from Southern California.
  • Weekly group prayer.
  • Letters and e-mail to families.
  • Cards on birthdays, holidays and special occasions.
  • Invite local children/families to CCS special events (i.e. carnival, Christmas, etc.)
  • Assist families with special needs and requests

Grades 7-8:  Operation Gratitude & E-Mail our Military Team Goal: To support our troops by writing letters, sending packages and e-mailing those deployed around the world.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Weekly group prayer
  • Adopt soldiers or battalion to send weekly e-mails to.
  • Monthly letters and/or cards.
  • Student teams of 2 – 4 to rotate going to Van Nuys to the California Army National Guard Armory to pack and ship care packages to be sent to military overseas.
