Third Grade Spends a Memorable Morning at the American Legion

For the past several years, Calvary has taken a leadership role in teaching each student about the importance of serving others. Through partnerships with various organizations across a wide spectrum of needs, Calvary students have had an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others throughout Los Angeles and within the local community.  Since the integrated intentional community service program was launched in 2006, students have learned that they can give back at an early age and that their helpful hands and open hearts can change lives for the better. The goals of Calvary Christian School include connecting children to their community; and to foster reflection, understanding and compassion.

Calvary has partnered with the American Legion, YMCA and Pacific Palisades Women’s Club for a unique morning of sharing, learning and understanding between young and old. The group will share stories, write letters to deployed service members and enjoy special singing performances. The students will wrap up the morning with a technology workshop demonstrating photography skills on ipads.

“This is a special day for the Palisades community,” states Shannon Moon, parent and outreach coordinator for Calvary, “my son is active in the military and shared his experience of service and gratitude to the group last year. He walked away beaming with pride as he connected with veterans of the past and generations of the future.”

The entire community is welcome to join and celebrate the joy found in giving back to others! Apple pie and coffee will be served.
